Our young adult section is home to a wide variety of fiction for a wide range of readers.
Early Chapter Books
These books are designed for newly-independent readers. Many (though not all) of them are series. Look here for favorite characters and series like Junie B. Jones, Magic Treehouse, and Captain Underpants.
Series
Books that are part of a numbered series are shelved by series title, not author. These include “classics” like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, but also more recent series like Alex Rider and American Girls.
Classics/Reading List
If you’re looking for Newbery-Award winning authors, young adult classics, or abridged versions of classic literature, try this section first. Each store keeps copies of current school reading lists on hand, too, and books which are typically found on those lists will also be shelved in this section.
Teen Fiction
Books for mature teen readers are shelved in a separate area within the young adult section.
Inspirational
Inspirational fiction for young adults is shelved next to the adult Inspirational section.
Science Fiction and Fantasy
The Harry Potter generation loves sci-fi and fantasy! Books in these genres written especially for young readers are shelved here.
Nonfiction
Nonfiction for young readers is shelved in a Young Adult Nonfiction section. Those books are organized by broad subject headings. We carry school textbooks as well as books for general readers.
